Horses-celebrities

From time immemorial people devoted songs, legends and fairy-tales to horses. Ancient Greeks and Romans did even more – they built the mausoleums to prominent ones, raised marble columns in their honor, minted coins with their depictions and carved them out of stone. And in our turn we decided to give them their due and tell about the most prominent their representatives at that both mythological and real ones.

Absent, his sun and offspring

It is the most famous horse of the former USSR. In 1960 in Olympic Games in Rome it’s won in the dressage the first supreme award in the history of Soviet equestrian sport. Absent was brought up in the stud farm “Lugovskoy” (Dschambulskiy district). There grateful people set up a monument to it. Recently the researchers have come to the conclusion that Absent hadn’t be a thoroughbred Akhal-Teke as its father was the Arabian stallion Kazbek (a favorite horse of marshal Zhukov) and its mother was Akhal-Teke mare. Absent’s sun Abakan’s also left a “stamp” of its horseshoe in the history: in 1976 it became a prize-winner of World Championship in dressage and was a member of the combined team of the USSR during eight years. Absent’s offspring are one of the strongest ones and win first places.

Leapician horses

In Steria (Austria) people breed and bring up trained horses that dance a waltz in the imperial residence in Vein. They are born absolutely black-colored but in some years they become completely grey-haired. They are equated to state personnel and after the end of their artistic carrier they get full state allowances and return to the stables of their home farms where they’d been born.

Pegas

The winged horse Pegas is Poseidon’s and Medusa Gorgona’s sun. It was born from the trunk of a killed by Persey Gorgona. Pegas soared on the Olympus to deliver thunders and lightnings to Zeus. It symbolizes creation as it knocked out from under the ground by its horse-shoe Hippokrenus- a source of the muses that have capability to inspire poets.

Przewalski Horse

Looking for the truth Przevalski went to Tibet but found a horse there. It turned out that Prezevalsky Horse isn’t an ancestor of modern horses as it was considered to be earlier. The point is in the only one gene! Modern horses are derived not from this plain horse but from the other one – tarpan.

Eclips

It’d been taking part in the races for 23 years and it hadn’t been defeated by any horse any time therefore it got a title “Horse of the century”. Nowadays in Derby races the most swift horses are awarded by the Eclips prize. The horse got such name as it was born in the day of the eclips (1764, the 1-st of April). After the autopsy of a record-breaker a reason of its invincibility became clear – the horse had a phenomenal heart – with the weight of 6 kg 300gr!

Centaurs

Probably, the myth about centaurs appeared in consequence of the frequent incursions of Scythian cavalry on Greek cities. Having collided with Scythes Greeks decided that they are special creatures: human and horse in half. When a Scythe set in the saddle a horse and a man seemed to be a single whole.
